Solly's Legacy: Continuing the Story of the Landerville Family in the Outback

The Landerville family, with all their trials and tribulations in Solly’s Way, struck a chord with readers and sparked a demand for a sequel. After a lengthy hiatus from writing, I felt compelled to delve back into the world of the Landervilles to explore what happened to the family in the years following the events of the 1890s. The growth of the Landerville children into adulthood coincided with a world that was slowly sliding into a state of conflict. It was a time when the ANZAC tradition was forged and Australia's blind support for British preeminence began to be questioned, paving the way for Australia to become a proudly independent nation. The fierce pride of those who fought in the Great War made them leaders in the journey for the generations that followed.

Daniel Landerville's roots are deeply embedded in the red earth of the Australian outback. His childhood passion for horses becomes his life's work and his business. When the clouds of the Great War gather over Europe, Australian soldiers need mounts, and the army turns to men like Daniel. Driven by a sense of patriotic fervour and naive adventurism, he answers his country's call to war, leaving behind his family and all that he loves. When Empire demands it, he becomes a horsemaster of the Australian Light Horse.

Daniel's sense of adventure is quickly extinguished when he experiences the horrors of trench warfare at Gallipoli. His wounds, both physical and emotional, are severe, and he is eventually invalided home after the great Light Horse charge at Beersheba. However, his journey is far from over. Daniel finds himself in turbulent post-war Ottoman Turkey, where he must confront his demons and unfinished business if he is ever to find peace.
